Astroturf – a short history

Astro Turf was first patented by Robert Wright & James Faria in 1965. Initially sold under the brand name of ChemGrass, the brand was rebranded as AstroTurf a year later.

The first well-publicized use of AstroTurf was in 1966 for the Houston astrodome stadium. Astro Turf has since been used in numerous major stadiums worldwide. It has come a long way since its inception and is now a name that is familiar to most people.
